This book accompanies the event "Jonás Trueba, le goût du présent" (Jonás Trueba, a taste for the present), organised by the Cinemas of the Culture and Creation Department of the Centre Pompidou and presented from 27 January to 10 February 2026 at the Mk2 Bibliothèque x Centre Pompidou, in partnership with Los ilusos films, Arizona Distribution and Éditions de l'Œil.
with Itsaso Arana, Javier Lafuente, Santiago Racaj, Miguel Ángel Rebollo, Laura Renau, Jonás Trueba, Marcos Uzal and Marta Velasco
"What interests me is a body of work that continues throughout the stages of a life, not only one's own, but also that of the places one passes through and the people who accompany us. The issues that arise throughout a lifetime are important to me, and I want films to mark this journey, to provide a sense of coherence, like a family of films, with common themes that recur in different forms." — Jonás Trueba
Los ilusos, La reconquista, Eva en agosto, Qui à part nous, Venez voir, Septembre sans attendre...
Jonás Trueba's unique career path saw him quickly move away from traditional methods of conception, production and distribution to invent new ways of working collectively, scales specific to each project and new narrative forms.
Through a conversation with the filmmaker and a group interview in the studio with his long-time collaborators – producer, technicians and actress – we see the invention of a human-scale, artisanal cinema ecosystem, the realisation of a modest, thoughtful and passionate ideal.
An essay by Marcos Uzal and excerpts from Jonás Trueba's notebooks (which are a combination of diary, preparatory notes for films and reflections on cinema) complete this collection on the making of films, observing a process in which life and cinema are infinitely intertwined.
