Jun Iwasaki - I MURI IN ITALIA

“Only the wall in front of me was born before me, and I will continue to keep an eye on the landscape of the future, more than a hundred years from now.
I MURI IN ITALIA captures not only the cityscape of a passing era in the frame.
But it also includes the great spirit of the young man who passes through these streets on his way to school every day, and the legacy of the traveller who merely passes by.
They become devices that bring to light memories not only of the city's history of the rise and fall that took place here, but also memories in personal histories. I want to research the depth of the ‘Impermanence’ of our lives through the walls. Also, my work purposefully inhabits an ambiguity of meaning, a gap in formality and formal imperfection. This may explain my interest in ‘ambiguous territories’ - territories that don’t prevent knowledge, rather expand it - which are suitable for questioning. It reflects a straightforward aspect of my artistic approach at the same time.

Through this work, I would like to clearly convey that our lives are very ambiguous and indeterminate.” — Jun Iwasaki
