In an apartment, the windows have been carefully sealed shut. Daylight no longer penetrates. A tiny hole in the black curtain lets in a single beam of light: the outside world enters, inverted, fragile, projected onto the walls, the sheets, the bodies. The place becomes a darkroom, a space for listening and for disrupting the gaze.

The project stems from a desire to explore the intangible—the ephemeral, traces, memories—and to pursue research into perception and time. Here, reality enters unfiltered, but is transformed. Images of the world appear slowly, shaky, moving. A passerby becomes an apparition, a car on the ceiling becomes a character. Time expands, sounds thicken, boredom sets in and opens a breach, that of the little, the almost nothing.

In this inhabited darkness, it is no longer a question of capturing an image, but of letting it happen. Light becomes poetic matter, slowness a form of attention. Each suspended moment reveals the fragility of the visible and the strangeness of the familiar.

42 rue du Ruisseau recreates this experience through a series of images and narrative fragments written by four hands. Silver gelatin photographs taken in the Camera Obscura and others in negatives obtained by placing photosensitive paper directly on the walls of the apartment. It offers a sensitive experience, a new way of inhabiting emptiness, of looking differently, of welcoming the ephemeral.
